The final count is in, and our gear giveaway weighs a ton. It’s time to unveil the Shinichi Osawa and HILOCO neroDoll remix winners. Envelope please.

Time and time again, you guys turn it out. This latest REMIX:REMODEL contest brought out incredibly diverse musical approaches, touching on electronic pop, peak time techno, soulful head nod beats, and every variation in between.  Creativity runs deep, and over 550 remixes prove it.

And so, without any further adieu…let’s get to it:

WINNING REMIXES: Shinichi Osawa ‘Frosted Tips’

Grand prize winner: MOSELEY
2nd place: Access Denied
3rd place: HaduVidu

How the Remixes Were Selected

Shinichi offered some thoughts:

“I didn’t want to limit the final selections to any specific style. Since ‘Frosted Tips’ has a Japanese touch, I thought it would be interesting to hear interpretations of an “Eastern” sound. Both remixes have a really nice vibe and mood, yet MOSELEY has rather fresh approach when it comes to approaching the rhythm.”

Pheek, Kami Records’s Lead Electronic Audio Engineer, noted about third place: “HaduVidu worked on orchestration and brought in real musicality by developing the original melody. There’s something tongue-in-cheek too with its disco-inspired flavour, suggesting taste with staying power.”

WINNING REMIXES: HILOCO neroDoll ‘Come On’

Grand prize winner: Joao Miguel
2nd place: Claas Herrmann
3rd place: DJ Starmist

How the Remixes Were Selected

HILOCO gave us her perspective on the final selections:

“I made “Come On” intentionally sparse because I wanted a particular mood for my DJ sets. It also has more more space to play with for remixing. For the contest, I was looking for originality and creative use of the ‘Come On’ sample.

João Miguel’s remix has a really polished take with a consistent storyline. The second half of the song was especially wonderful.  I really like the opening with trippy and beautiful progressive arrangements.  It’s the perfect complement to the original as an official release on Gate Tower Records.

Claus Herrmann – that synth!  Even though he kept to a similar aesthetic as the original, I was impressed by the acid feel and fresh arrangement that took the song into a different emotional territory.

DJ Starmist stood out from the start with an impressive combination of percussion with a bleep techno bass line. I really enjoyed his original approach, where bass wobbles meets the breaks.”
